Women in Tech: The heroes among us are also female

Technology is fast evolving but creating a gender equal workplace in the tech industry remains at a slow pace. For instance, the data from the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) showed 47% of employed adults in the US are women, but they only hold 25% of computing roles. Of the 25% of women in tech, only 5% are Asian. In 2020, statistics show that only about 25% of employees in Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft (GAFAM) are female. According to a survey, 71% of women experienced working in a tech company with a strong “bro culture”.

Women in tech are still outnumbered, hence it is still another male-dominated industry right now. Only 20% of those in the field are female. At ClinkIT Solutions, we want to change this. Today, 33% of our developers are female, and we see a future where the number of our female and male developers are equal.

It is for the same reason that we encourage female fresh graduates with IT and Computer Science skills to join our Sidekicks program.   1. Selection of sidekicks is based on skills not gender.
    We review applications and choose who will become part of the program based on the qualifications and the score on the technical test. These allow us to determine the potential of a candidate. We do not believe in stereotyping candidates with such notions like female developers are better at frontend programming and male developers are more capable at doing backend.

    The Sidekicks program is meant for you to sharpen your overall programming skills, from frontend to backend to the other capacities of the profession. And this is done through immersing you in a real work environment. This is also how we discover the heroes among us with the special talents to become a kickass junior software developer.

  2. You get the same training and exposure as everyone else.
    All sidekicks will go through the same training program and get exposure not just in software development but also sales and project management. You will have the chance to receive mentorship and work alongside our experienced professionals in the said roles. You will learn best practices and gain practical experience that will help prepare you for the real world. For four months, you can get a glimpse and be part of a work environment where diversity is highly valued. We encourage sharing of brilliant ideas regardless of gender and seniority.
